- Access to the Event Countdown and Notification functionality
Timeline Event Timings
The times shown in the Timeline Page are shown to the nearest second for most events, and to the nearest tenth of a second for solar eclipse contact times.
Note that for certain events, such as Sunrise, Moonrise and similar, the times are denoted with a tilde (~) character. This indicates that while the indicated time is when the app has calculated the moment of the event, variations in conditions may result in the exact time varying from what is shown.
Generally for events such as Sunrise, accuracy is to the nearest minute because of the somewhat unpredictable effects of atmospheric refraction on the precise moment the upper limb of the Sun may appear on the horizon.
The tilde character indicates that shown precision likely exceeds accuracy.
For solar eclipses, the contact times are standard 'smooth limb' times, i.e. they are not adjusted for the effects of the actual lunar limb, where valleys and mountains can result in (typically) minor changes to when the last Baily's bead disappears at C2 or reappears at C3.
The times are given to the precision of one tenth of a second primarily so you can compare our numbers with other sources.
Tapping an event in the list will set the app to the time of that event - you will see this reflected on the Map page on dismissing the Timeline Page, and also in the Event Countdown page.
Display Options
Tap the Settings button at the top right of the Timeline Page to adjust Display Options. Simply check or uncheck the items you would like to see:
TIP: If you are planning on photographing a Solar Eclipse, you may wish to uncheck Moon Phases and Transits, as these can occur right in the middle of totality and generally do not provide useful information at such times!
